I am a fully qualified Primary school teacher with more than twenty years experience working across the whole primary age range (4-11). I am currently working full time as a tutor.
I specialise in English from early phonics through developing reading and comprehension skills, I also teach spelling and writing, focussing on sentence structure, grammar and punctuation.
I have worked for many years as a maths subject lead in a large city school, supporting staff in planning and assessing the maths curriculum, I was also responsible for planning and implementing maths SATs Booster classes for children in year 6.
My current job is tutoring students online, following an initial assessment, I plan a bespoke series of lessons to help each child achieve their potential.
I also help support children who are preparing for 11+ entrance exams.
I worked in London in my first two years of teaching, I then relocated to Leeds and settled there, teaching for over twenty years in the same primary school, during that time I taught everything from Nursery to Year 6 and was also a member of the senior leadership team.
I left full time teaching six years ago due to family commitments and began tutoring from home for friends and family. In the last year I have built up my hours and consequently my business. I have done a range of training courses in Autism and Dyslexia and have made myself familiar with the 11+ examinations.
I have supported a number of students helpiing to bridge gaps in their learning or helping prepare them for structured assessments. I support a number of children who are diagnosed dyslexic.
Some of my tutoring is online usually via Zoom and Bitpaper to allow all lessons to be fun and interactive.
I also work Face to Face from my teaching space at my home in Clifford near Wetherby.,
I believe very strongly that each tutee should be treated as an individual, I liaise closely with parents in order to establish the areas they feel need working on. I email planning to parents prior to the session and use a range of resources online to try and keep the lessons lively and interesting for the students. I feedback to parents regularly and keep them updated as to how their child is doing.
