My Name is Clara Buckland and I am a 33 year old native English speaker. I am a qualified English and Drama teacher and have taught in a variety of settings (from State, Grammar and Private schools) for 10 years. I hold a BA Hons degree in English Literature and Drama from The University of Manchester (2:1, 2012) and a Trinity College Certificate in TESOL (Teaching of English to speakers of other languages). I have had years experience teaching both EFL and the National Curriculum to various demographics and also had managerial experience.
I have excellent communication skills and strong academic credentials, which I believe are essential to becoming a good tutor and teacher. I have always enjoyed studying and have gained excellent exam results from GCSE to undergraduate degree level. However, I could not have achieved without tutors that helped me throughout the process.
My most recent teaching employment was as an English teacher at St John’s School in Leatherhead, Surrey teaching all key stages (KS3, IGCSE and A level). Prior to that, I taught English up to KS5 level at Tiffin school in Kingston. Prior to that, I taught Drama and English in an inner London city school. I have taught a variety of exam boards, but have most commonly taught and tutored AQA as an examination board as I am also an English examiner for that board. Prior to this, I was a Teacher Team Leader at a language school called Wall Street English Institute in Bangkok, Thailand which involved me teaching EFL to a wide demographic group. My TESOL experience was diverse teaching mainly adults in corporate settings to enhance both their everyday vocabulary and professional articulation in varied contexts.
I currently tutor over 10 students who vary in demographic and need. I can tutor Primary, 11+/ Entrance exams , KS3, GCSE, A level or even Adult learners English as a second language.
My tutoring is exclusively online and mainly one to one but can consider group lessons also. If you would like a face to face lesson initially I can consider. I will discuss with the tutee and parent/guardian what they would like to achieve and focus directly on developing their skills necessary. I create a warm and friendly atmosphere so that the lesson is taught effectively and that we can communicate clearly with one another.
