I am an enthusiastic physics, general science and maths tutor based in Brighton with over 25 years of experience. I offer both face to face and online tuition. I teach science in a secondary school and I am a University of Cambridge MA graduate in Natural Sciences. I have a PGCE and a qualification in tutoring (National Tutor Programme, NTP). I have a great deal of experience of both students who want to excel, those who may need to catch up and those with processing difficulties. I am patient, kind and creative and have a wide range of strategies to offer.
I have been teaching for over 25 years in schools and universities. I have taught predominantly GCSE level but also A level and upper primary.
I moved my tutoring online since the pandemic and all my tutees, from all over the country, seem to thrive in this setup.
For many years I have helped students in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science achieve their goals. I have also successfully taught maths to adults to GCSE level. I tutor both long-term and short-term. I have a lot of experience raising self-esteem through tutoring, coaching and mentoring.
I encourage students to be 'active learners'. I quickly build a rapport with the student and have a kind and enthusiastic approach that gives steady positive student progress and builds confidence. I make extensive use of past papers, revision websites and guides as well as responding to what the tutee feels is necessary. I ensure that students practice recall and responding to command words that are common at GCSE and A level. When I am steering a student towards a national exam, I help students make a timetable they are comfortable with, to ensure success. There is a strong crossover from my school teaching practice, so that I remain in touch with professional developments in both pedagogy and in science/maths subject teaching.
I have had many successful tutees who have been delighted by their results!
