I studied for a BSc in Animal Science from the University of London in 1997 and an MSc in Biomedical Science from the University of Bradford in 1999. Afterwards, I worked in the Biochemistry department of Oxford University for six years in research and have two publications.
After Oxford, I started teaching one-to-one in a private tutorial in 2006. In 2017, I became a full-time teacher in an international school teaching A level, GCSE and our in-house foundation course. In addition, I have also been teaching holiday revision courses, which involve one-to-one and small classes.
As well as my passion for teaching and education, I also enjoy interacting with students and always encourage them to reach their full potential. I am extremely patient and always willing to accept any students irrespective of their academic abilities.
While I was teaching one-to-one, I had the privilege of teaching students from all kinds of backgrounds. Some of them were excellent academically, while others may have had behavioural problems and difficulties in learning. During this time, I learned to be patient and understanding of their needs.
During my time as a teacher in an international school, I had the honour of meeting students from many other countries. This has given me insights into their rich culture and education systems, which can be very different to that of the UK. In addition, I have gained experience in dealing with students whose first language is not English. Nevertheless, some of them succeeded in getting into University to study medicine, dentistry and veterinary science.
Initially, I will establish a good working relationship so that the students feel completely at ease in the class. This is essential to build students' confidence and self-esteem. After that, I will ensure students can understand the topics and are able to apply their knowledge. It is also essential to focus on exam techniques as having knowledge alone is not enough. From my experience, a lot of students can record all the facts but fail to answer the questions in the exam. Therefore, in addition to making notes and explanations, I place heavy emphasis on how to answer questions that satisfy the examiners.
