I have a PhD in Molecular Biology from UEA in Norwich and work as a research scientist studying ecology and evolution of a wild bird species living in Kenya. I have a broad background in Biology, having graduated with a First Class Biology degree from Cardiff University in 2016. During my degree I also did a professional training year working on the wetland reserve at Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. I am an enthusiastic and patient individual who enjoys inspiring people of all ages in science and the natural world.
As part of my role currently I work for the Biology department as a teacher/ demonstrator. Helping to inspire and enthuse people about Biology through tutoring is a lovely addition to my week.
In my spare time I enjoy singing in an A Capella choir, scuba diving and going hiking with a particular love for the Highlands.
I believe in an open and supportive approach, responding to the needs of each individual.
Having studied at university level for 4 years and post-graduate level for a further 5 years, I have learnt to appreciate the diversity of techniques that we can use to retain and understand information. Initially it is important to assess the knowledge gaps of an individual relative to the syllabus followed by a personalised approach with potential to run through past paper questions, verbal understanding and explanation, mind maps and bringing the subject alive through real life examples.
