A qualified teacher who excels at any opportunity to develop and learn. I have a broad range of knowledge and skills, whilst also being approachable, flexible and professional. I have a proven record of reliability and excellence in my current, and previous roles. I have taught a variety of age ranges and abilities English literature and language, with experience in Social Studies.
I have 6 years of experience teaching in various schools including those that were international. I demonstrated the ability to keep high standards in all roles as a teacher and in middle management. My current title is an English Teacher who specialises in KS3 and KS4 and as the English Additional Language teacher for KS5 students who are preparing for IELTS and University through the school's University Foundation Programme (UFP). In the past, I have been a Middle School Coordinator for English and Social Studies at an accredited and reputable International school in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where an emphasis was on assessments and studying that was engaging, enriching, and collaborative. This then resulted in a sharp rise in student development, with ideas on how to make informed decisions with research to use in everyday life. With any role or position I have taken on in school, I was known for showing great enthusiasm and could adapt and maintain positive management of behaviour for learning where there was mutual respect; pupils could feel safe and secure, and this promotes their self-esteem.
My approach to teaching is one that creates a safe learning environment that allows creativity and hard work to thrive. I believe in allowing students to push themselves to their abilities. Having worked with students abroad and domestically I have supported multiple students who use English as a secondary language and I promote enthusiasm for reading and literacy along with maintaining high standards of grammar. I ensure students grow in areas such as transactional, narrative, and descriptive writing. Moreover the ability to analyse a variety of texts such as articles and blogs in detail and understand the literary techniques writers will use for effect. To develop language proficiency I support the students to engage with materials in a way that is challenging yet comfortable. I hope to create a culture of reading within the classroom through activities and promotion of skilled reading habits and weekly key vocabulary to use.
