Hi, I’m Dani and I’m a primary school teacher. I am currently about to start my eighth year of teaching and am currently working in the independent sector. Prior to this, I spent over four years working in state education; I have taught Years 3-6 across both sectors, with the majority of my experience lying in Year 6, who I have taught for four years overall. I have also gained almost five years' experience as a primary maths specialist and Maths Leader in both state and independent schools.
I initially gained experience in one-on-one private tuition whilst working as a teaching assistant nine years ago. During this time, I supported several children of primary school age in English and maths.
I then completed my Primary PGCE at UCL’s Institute of Education, where I had the opportunity to turn a long-held passion for mathematics into a mathematics-specialist PGCE qualification. As part of the course, I undertook whole class teaching responsibilities in Years 2 and 3.
I completed my first year as a qualified teacher in Year 4. I was then asked to teach Year 6 and spent three years teaching this year group. Working in Year 6 provided me with valuable experience teaching the mathematics, writing and reading skills required of the SATs exams. Under my care, Year 6 children progressed rapidly and it was wonderfully rewarding to see them do so.
My enthusiasm for teaching maths and my skills teaching mathematics mastery led me to be offered the role of Maths Leader in my previous school. As part of this role, I supported other teachers to develop their teaching of mathematics.
I then gained a further six months' experience in one-on-one private tuition as we began to emerge from the pandemic. During this time, I supported my tutees to re-build their confidence in English and maths as they transitioned back into the classroom.
Following the pandemic, I moved to teach Year 3 and transitioned into the independent sector in the same year group. I then spent one year teaching Year 5 and am about to start my second year teaching Year 6 in the independent sector.
My love for and experience in teaching and leading mathematics led me to be offered the role of Maths Leader in my current school. Over the past two years, in this role, I have gained invaluable experience learning to challenge highly capable mathematicians, whilst developing an in depth knowledge of schemes, strategies and resources that can support those who are working to develop their confidence.
Tutoring sessions would be tailored entirely around the student. With your support, we will determine what your child finds more difficult or would like support with and take sessions from this starting point. My approach will always be to build positive relationships with students, to make lessons engaging and to use resources and strategies which can boost your child's confidence so that they make the best possible progress.
