I am a friendly, approachable and highly successful Head of Maths working in an independent all girls school. I am passionate about ensuring my teaching offers pupils the opportunity to reach their potential and achieve their academic goals. I am a highly ambitious teacher who has over a decade of experience teaching from year 7 through to A level Maths. I also have experience teaching FSMQ Additional Maths and A Level Further Maths.

I have a 2:1 BSc degree in Mathematics with Finance from Queens University Belfast and gained QTS and trained to be a teacher at the University of Manchester.

Tutoring Experience

I trained in two very high achieving schools with very different cultures and ethos; one a grammar school and the other was an outstanding and high performing faith school. Whilst at these schools, I developed innovative pedagogical methods to my teaching. I then spent 9 years working in Manchester, improving both my teaching and leadership. I currently work in an all girls independent school in Cambridge as Head of Maths. I have tutored throughout the years before taking a step back from it when moving home but I am now in a position to get back involved, with a wealth more experience to bring to helping students.

Tutoring Approach

Ensuring maths is accessible to all is my motivation. My approach to tutoring is that the pupil's needs and development are at the core. I am very motivated, hardworking and committed towards helping pupils reach their potential. Teaching maths is a pleasure and I always work with pupils towards correcting misconceptions with knowledge and calculations that are common in the subject. During sessions I will discuss and explain key features and go through some examples before allowing the tutee some time to work on problems on their own to assess their understanding (then challenge them with extension tasks if necessary). I will set a homework, based on what I teach in the lesson, for them to practice over the week which I will mark and give feedback. I am flexible and often integrate a number of approaches in order to tailor to every pupil's individual needs
