I am a current Cambridge University student studying for an Undergraduate diploma in Creative Writing, and hold a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from The Open University.
I specialise in tutoring English language and literature at GCSE and A Level, and have a proven track record of boosting my students' grades and helping them succeed. I have an excellent academic background, achieving A*s in English Language and Literature at both GCSE and A Level. I am very well travelled and have lived and studied in 8 countries including Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, Germany, Bulgaria, Ukraine, UK and Egypt, which makes me very well suited to teach students of different backgrounds and cultures. I also speak fluent Russian and Ukrainian. I spent my gap year travelling Eastern Europe and teaching ESL to foreigners, particularly in Ukraine and Bulgaria.
Tutoring is my full-time job and English Literature is my passion. I put a substantial amount of effort into my lessons and resources. I genuinely care about my students achieving the best possible grades and feeling confident approaching their exams. I take great pleasure in helping my students understand a difficult topic and every single one of my students have made significant improvements in the quality of their work, noticed by their school teachers within a relatively short amount of time.
Outside of tutoring, I am currently working on my first novel that I aim to publish in the near future. I love reading both modern and classical literature, and enjoy travelling, nature and cinema. I am fully DBS-checked and students/parents may request to see a copy of my certificate if needs be.
I have over 4 years experience in tutoring A-Level and GCSE English Language and Literature and have successfully helped all my students progress, grow in confidence and achieve higher grades. I have taught over 650 hours online and possess excellent knowledge of the AQA, Edexcel and Eduqas exam boards. I can teach you exactly what the examiners are looking for and provide you with the exam skills needed to succeed.
I have helped both GCSE and A-Level students prepare for their exams through practicing text analysis, essay writing, poetry annotations and past papers. I can assist you with skills such as in-depth analysis of novels, plays and poetry, using linguistic terminology, understanding historical, social and literary contexts, and correct essay structure. I can additionally provide assistance with your personal statement, having helped many of my A-Level students with their personal statements, resulting in them receiving offers from multiple universities. I can also help you with your coursework, having helped many of my students excel in their NEAs. I also have extensive experience in 1:1 tutoring of primary school ages (6-11 years old), although the majority of my clients are A level and GCSE students.
I have taught various classical and modern texts on both the A Level and GCSE curriculums including Frankenstein, Never Let Me Go, The Handmaids Tale, A Streetcar Named Desire, Othello, King Lear, Hamlet, Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, A Christmas Carol, as well as various selections of poetry such as Romantic and Victorian poetry as well as unseen poetry.
I am also experienced in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to students varying in ages from 6 to 25, and have successfully moved up students with beginner levels of English to intermediate and Pre-intermediate levels.
I have great knowledge of the UK curriculum, as well as the requirements of awarding exam boards.
My teaching style is very friendly, dynamic and patient, and I like to engage my students in active discussions about the subject, asking questions and prompting my students to think critically rather than handing them the answers on a plate. I tailor each of my lessons to the individual needs of every student, first asking what areas they struggle with, and then devising lessons that will provide my students with the help they need and effectively engage and motivate them. I know how to find the perfect approach to my students, which results in effective and enjoyable lessons. I like to incorporate meta-cognitive strategies in my lessons, and hear my students' interpretations about the texts we are studying.
I dedicate a lot of my time and effort into providing my students with excellent and valuable resources, in which I incorporate relevant content from past exam performance, exemplar essays and examiner reports. I present my resources in the form of PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, GoogleDocs and Word. I am happy to provide out of lesson support too, such as marking written work, or looking over anything you may struggle with.
