I am a full time English lecturer and published author.of both non-fiction and fiction. I am married with three daughters and live in rural Kent. When not teaching or writing I enjoy spending time with my family and walking my dogs in the countryside near my home. I am looking to make the transition from working in a college to private tutoring to balance my other commitments as a writer as I have an ongoing publishing contract for my Cold War thriller series, The Alex Swan Mysteries. I have already a small private client base ranging from KS2,KS3 and GCSE as well as teaching creative writing to adults.
I have been teaching English for 20 years, first vocationally in work-based learning programmes and modern apprenticeships, then academically in further education. I currently teach GCSE English (both old specs in its final year at college and the 2015 specifications. I also teach Functional Skills programmes.
I thrive on one to one teaching as well as teaching to small or large groups. I enjoy a challenge and do not see every student as the same, To me each student is an individual and therefore needs to be taught in a way that best suits them using a different range of strategies and resources to help with learning. Having three daughters has enabled me to understand behaviors and attitude to learning in young people and helped me to identify techniques to engage them to want to achieve.
