Hi I'm David! I love everything to do with Maths and take further pleasure in helping others understand the complex subject. I am a relaxed, empathetic and intuitive person. My other hobbies include football, squash and hiking. I even organised a six week hiking trip to the national parks of America!
I am 24 years old and so have recently gone through the education system. My passion is to help set people up for their future no matter their ability or requirements.
I studied both Maths (A*) and Further Maths (A) at GCSE and A Level (A*/A again) before studying a BSc in Maths at the University of Surrey. During Sixth Form I ran a Maths Club for the lower years once a week. I would then usually be found in the dining hall helping my peers with the content we were currently studying.
I am very proud that all my Year 13 students were accepted by their first-choice Univeristy in 2023.
I have been tutoring for a year and a half now, and have had over 50 unique students in that time. All of them have shown clear progress academically but most importantly, it's their confidence that comes on leaps and bounds.
In 2019, I was employed by a Senior Researcher from the University of Nottingham to assist in a research project looking at students having to retake GCSE Maths at college. This meant I heard first hand the positives/negatives/suggestions that these students shared on their education experience. The themes were rather consistent and I learned a lot about what the students believe would have benefited them.
Unlike a lot of tutors, this is my fulltime job. This already ensures I take great pride in tutoring. I spend my daytimes preparing for evening sessions. This allows me to bring work/questions along directly catering to your/your child's needs. I spend about 45 minutes carefully crafting the material so that it is personalised and specific. This allows for a very productive hour with everything prepared, rather than me showing up and doing everything on the fly.
Although Maths typically has a definitive answer, the way a person reaches that answer is unique to them. Unlike a teacher who will teach 30 children one method, I will find the method that your child understands best. I am very perceptive and sensitive which makes it easy for me to find the methods and stimuli your child responds best to.
Practically, the sessions will run for one hour. The first 10 minutes will be spent catching up with your child (E.g any work I set them, what they have recently been taught, any new problems etc.). The last 5 minutes will be spent updating you on what has been taught, your child's progress, what work has been set. This allows for 45 minutes of proper 1-on-1 teaching.
