Although I have taught maths in schools for a (very) long time, I still do enjoy the subject! I try to pass on this enthusiasm to others not just to help them pass an exam but because maths can also be fun!!
I do also enjoy taking our dogs for a walk (even though they aren't very good at maths!)
I am an experienced and qualified maths teacher but am now semi retired.
As well as being a class teacher in a number of local secondary schools for many years, I have been a home tutor for over fifteen years. Most recently during the last six years I have worked part time in two local secondary schools as a tutor where I have been employed teaching after school on a one to one basis to help pupils prepare for their GCSE exams.
I have been a marker for Edexcel for the last eight years marking over 1000 GCSE exams each summer. This has helped give me a good understanding of the commonest mistakes that candidates make in their exams and so help my students not make the same mistakes.
I have, in the past, also worked with younger children as they move from primary to secondary school and also with adults wanting to gain qualifications to improve their job prospects.
I enjoy teaching maths and hope that my enthusiasm rubs off on the students. Realistically, however, students clearly need to feel that they are making progress (especially if they are working towards an exam) and I feel strongly that their progress is as much about helping them to develop confidence in their own ability as to my teaching.
