A highly skilled mathematics tutor, who is very experienced at establishing positive relationships with young people. My employment as a one-to-one maths tutor by a school and a college provides reassurance that I am reliable, trustworthy and professional. Furthermore, I hold an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate (previously known as a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) certificate).
I have a degree in mathematics from the University of Birmingham and am passionate about improving confidence in mathematical ability.
Prior to becoming a maths tutor, I had a career break to look after my children, both of whom I tutored. My first career was at the National Foundation for Educational Research, where I worked for over thirteen years. Whilst responsible for the successful development of a variety of published tests for use in primary schools, I gained excellent planning and organisational skills with good time management, all of which are essential for tutoring.
I have over eight years’ experience of maths tutoring, including five years at an outstanding secondary school. Furthermore, I have a proven track record of ensuring that students make good progress and achieve well.
I am very adaptable, as demonstrated by successfully teaching maths at a variety of levels from primary to GCSE, both privately and at educational establishments. In addition, I have also successfully tutored young people with special educational needs.
A key aspect to my approach is to establish positive one-to-one relationships with learners, so that they feel confident about discussing any perceived difficulties with mathematics. I am patient, friendly and encouraging.
In addition, I ensure a high level of engagement by constantly adapting lessons to meet student’s individual needs, enabling them to improve, progress and achieve. Furthermore, every session includes the explicit teaching of the skills and techniques required to do well in assessments and examinations.
Overall, my aim is to motivate and empower young people to take responsibility for their own learning.
