Online Chemistry and Biology Tutoring

I am a qualified teacher and journal author having been awarded a MPhil from the University of Cambridge, a BSc and a BEd from the University of Hong Kong. I teach at an independent day school that ranks in the top 50s in GCSE and A-Level. I published my work on assessment for learning in the International Journal Science Education (IJSE) - a top journal in the field of Science Education. I am also a DPhil offer holder at the University of Oxford.

As a practitioner and a researcher in the field of Science Education, I based my teaching on research-based approach and tailor made teaching, revision and assessment resources. I have helped students succeed in achieving their full potential and top grades in GCSE and A-Level, enabling them to study in highly regarded universities, such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University College London, Imperial College London, University of Manchester and University of Edinburgh.

Tutoring Experience

Graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Master in Philosophy (MPhil), I have been teaching Science, GCSE and A-Level Biology for four years at an oversubscribed day school in Southwest London. I have tailor made teaching, revision and assessment resources to facilitate students understand key concepts in the curricula and prepare them for standardised tests. Amongst others, I teach abstract concepts using a multimodal approach that my students find very useful and speak very highly of.

Tutoring Approach

"One size does not fit all" - I adopt a tailor made, personalised approach to help each student to achieve his or her full potential and get the best grade possible in standardised assessments. Diagnostic assessment is given during and/or after each lesson to track progress and feedback is provided to parents on a regular basis. Resources is shared before each session.

I have used multifarious approaches and tools to scaffold my students to:

  • deconstruct and understand key scientific concepts.
  • represent key concepts in a clearer, apprehensible form for revision.
  • apply key concepts in exam-style questions clearly and concisely.
  • develop examination techniques to tackle higher-order questions.
  • develop scientific literacy skills to read and write science.
  • develop metacognitive skills to monitor and reflect on their learning progression.
