I hold a Master's degree in Mathematics and a PGCE in the teaching of Mathematics. Following many years of successful secondary Mathematics teaching in the UK and overseas, I built a second career in software and change management, primarily in the Financial services and Health sectors. I became Chief Operating Officer for a software company, and have operated my own consultancy business since 2010. Throughout, I have retained my passion for Mathematics, and am now focusing on tuition as my main occupation.
I have fourteen years of school-based Maths teaching experience, eleven of which were as Head of Department, including a total of five years in two Kent grammar schools, and several years in prestigious international schools.
Since 2017, I have tutored over 50 students in A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and IB Diploma Standard and Higher Levels. I have also supported undergraduates following subsidiary Mathematics courses. I offer both online and face-to-face tuition.
My approach to tuition is structured and patient; Difficulties in learning maths can often lead to anxiety and confusion, and the role of the tutor in 1-1 tuition is to complement the classroom approach by helping the student develop confidence in their core skills. I seek to develop a good working partnership with students, and students for their part must be committed to reinforcing the gains from the tutorial sessions with practice at home.
