Civil Engineering MEng graduate from the University of Bristol. During my studies, I regularly explained complex topics to my peers when lecture notes were unclear. I felt that breaking down a problem and describing the solution into logical steps was a strength of mine and something that I enjoyed. Combining this enthusiasm with a solid mathematical background from school and university, I am keen to work as a maths tutor for secondary school and A-Level students.
Informally, I have tutored 2 family friends in the weeks leading up to their GCSE maths exams.
Professionally, I have trained up a replacement employee from scratch at my most recent job as a Development Associate at Whiterock Clean Energy UK.I ran multiple online teaching sessions with them and also pre-recorded over 5 hours of lectures and created a comprehensible notes document for them to refer to.
I break down maths problem into steps which follow logical reasoning - each step simply builds from the previous in manageable jumps. Basically, going from a really simple version of what we're trying to solve, a student can grasp a slight advancement on it if the step isn't too large. Doing this continually can make even the most difficult problems make sense. No memorization, but actual understanding, so that if the problem comes up in a stressful environment when you have to memorise all kinds of other stuff (aka exam week), the student can rely on themselves to break the problem down and solve it.
