I'm an Oxford educated literature lover and a teacher at a high-achieving Independent School, but I particularly enjoy the 1 to 1 elements of tuition. I completed my undergraduate degree in Ireland, including a stint at the University of California San Diego, and graduated with a First Class degree. I followed this up with some time at an NGO in Brussels and then a Masters in English Literature at the University of Oxford, after which I proceeded to work at a large investment bank. However, the enforced absence from books and the world of literary analysis made me realise just how much I enjoy discussing literature, and helped me find my vocation. I hope to inspire some of this enjoyment in those I teach!
I've taught in both selective and non-selective leading independent schools, and have tutored a wide range of students throughout this time. I'm an external examiner for 11+ and 13+ entrance exams, and have taught a range of different examination boards at GCSE and A Level, including AQA, OCR, Edexcel, IGCSE. I was awarded 'Outstanding' in my PGCE year, and received a First at University.
I've been teaching and tutoring for several years now, and have taught a range of different exam boards and specifications. I teach from ages 11-18, and am happy with a range of abilities; I've taught both A* candidates looking to consolidate their knowledge, and EAL students who need familiarising with the basics.
My approach varies depending on the needs and skills of the pupil. Some pupils gain a lot from discussion, whilst others prefer written tasks and feedback; one student might benefit from engagement with context, whilst another might need help focusing on close analysis. We'll come up with various strategies and discover what works best for you and your aims!
