My name is Éirin Cushnahan and I am currently working as a History and Religious studies teacher. I obtained the highest grade in A.Level history in NI whilst at school. My A.Level subjects included History, RE and sociology receiving A*, A and B. From there I attended the prestigious Russel group University that is Queens University Belfast obtaining a 2:1 in my Bachelor of Arts History. For the past five years I have predominantly tutored students who are below their attainment levels or students who need extra support prior to examinations. I am an enthusiastic and passionate person who thrives when working with young people to achieve their full potential.
I have tutored three students who was struggling to get a D in their GCSE past papers. I worked with themstudent for 5 weeks 1 session per week and they ultimately got two grade B's & one grade A in their GCSE exam.
At A.Level I have tutored three students in a varitey of subjects each of whom have achieved their A* aim and successfully gained placement at their higher educational institude of choice.
Before this, I trained as a history teacher with the University of Sussex receiving an 'outstanding' teacher status. Whilst working as a history teacher I have consistently obtained 'outstanding' status and have paid particular attention to students who need to 'raise a grade' in their GCSE and A Level exams.I have worked in two separate schools since training as a history teacher in very different settings. I have extensive experience working with students who have Special Educational Needs particularly those with barriers to literacy based subjects such as history to help them have access to the information. Nonetheless I have likewise worked with very capable students who simply need help regarding exam technique and or revision of a particular module.
As a tutor I use a range of techniques to help students with the subject(s) I am tutoring them for. If they have issues with their literacy different techniques for breaking down texts can be used to allow the student to access the information. For exam preparation we can explore different approaches to planning and answering different question types and or revision techniques. Writing skills can and will be developed throughout any subject/tutoring session. Nonetheless the strengths and challenges of each individual student will be assessed and an individual approach will be taking to all students to insure they reach their full potential.
