After teaching professionally for 25 years I am now taking the step of becoming a private MFL tutor. I live in central Gosforth in Newcastle and enjoy creative activities such as dressmaking, knitting, decoupage and also compiling puzzles and games. I love to read, particularly European crime and historical fiction, as well an historical non-fiction. When finances allow, I like travelling within Europe and enjoying a few drinks out.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a qualified MFL teacher for 24 years, working mainly in state secondary schools within the north east, but I have also had some experience working in the primary sector and also teaching EFL at home and in Spain. I hold a BA Joint Honours degree in German and French (2:i), a DELE Intermedio in Spanish (‘A’ Level equivalent) and a Cert TEFL qualification (Grade ‘A’). Recent tutoring experience has included French, German and Spanish for GCSE , key stage 3 and adult learners, and French and German at AS level.

Tutoring Approach

I aim to tailor my sessions to the needs of the students, whether that is in preparation for a formal examination, a holiday or a stint abroad - or whether it is just to update skills or start a new hobby. .
I strongly believe that languages are not only an important tool for communication, but they can also enrich our lives enormously, keeping us mentally agile, exposing us to new knowledge and giving us greater insight into cultural experiences. Competence in one or more modern foreign languages is very advantageous for study, work and leisure and can also be fun!
