I am an experienced History teacher who is a warm and highly supportive individual. I also have a highly proficient academic record, having achieved a 1st class BA History and an A* in A Level History.
I am a current History teacher, teaching both GCSE and A Level History. For both courses, I teach the Edexcel curriculum. At GCSE, I specialise in Migrants in Britain, Early Elizabethan England, Superpower Relations, and Weimar and Nazi Germany. Over the past 3 years, I have designed both GCSE and A Level courses from scratch, which has led to me gaining an enormous wealth of subject knowledge. I am also an examiner for Edexcel. At GCSE, I am an examiner for Paper 3 Weimar and Nazi Germany, whilst at A Level I am an examiner for Option 1.F: In search of the American Dream. This is particularly valuable experience for understanding the nuances and precise requirements of the course and markschemes for these papers. The requirements of the GCSE paper also have significant overlap with other examined papers, meaning my examining expertise cover a range of options.
The key to exam success lies in excellent subject knowledge and a firm grasp of the different exam techniques required for different topics and question types. Therefore, my approach focuses on these. I seek to assess gaps in knowledge and understanding and use these to inform direct teaching of exam content. To ensure long-term understanding, I use a variety of retrieval methods to embed understanding in the long-term memory. To support development of exam technique, I focus on sharing best practice. As well as directly teaching structures and key requirements of exam question, my approach includes sharing and discussing exemplar answers, co-creating answers, and also providing necessary supports for students to be able to write their own with confidence. I am also able to provide actionable feedback in the moment, which enables students to develop quickly.
