I am Eleanor Lightowler, I am 29 years old and I have been teaching Psychology for 8 years. I have a diverse range of experience within Psychology, Sociology & Health and Social Care and in a variety of settings including comprehensive, grammar and international schools.
I completed my PGCE in Psychology at Canterbury Christ Church University, which provided me with the opportunity to experience a wide variety of settings. I completed placements at an all boys grammar school, a mixed ability comprehensive school and an orphanage within Accra, Ghana. I then continued my teaching practice teaching AQA psychology at both GCSE and A Level for 2 years. I pursued my desire to teach in an international setting by relocating to Shanghai, China where I taught CIE psychology for 4 years and was the head of a large psychology department. I have since relocated back to the UK as subject leader of Psychology and Sociology delivering the AQA syllabus at a mixed comprehensive school in Yorkshire. In my current role I have had the opportunity to raise attainment in both Psychology & Sociology and the Psychology results in Summer 2023 were the best A Level results in the school.
I take a student-centred approach to my teaching and I believe that a student needs to enjoy their learning. I am flexible and adaptive to students needs and I prioritise the well-being of my students. I am passionate about building a positive rapport with my students and helping them to feel both comfortable and confident in developing their skills in the Psychology discipline.
