I am a qualified English teacher who has been teaching English Language and Literature GCSE over the past three years in London. I received my QTS from the Institute of Education (ranked World Number 1 for Education) in 2021. Before teaching, I graduated in 'Comparative Literature and French' from University College London in 2020 with First Class Honours. I was also awarded a place on UCL’s Arts & Humanities Dean’s List 2020, representing the top 5% of students, in terms of academic performance, from the faculty.
As a qualified teacher, I have had first hand experience teaching all KS3 and KS4 year groups and a range of attainment levels. I have taught all types of texts (poetry/novels/plays/Shakespeare) and I have taught the AQA GCSE syllabus for three years. I have marked hundreds of GCSE exam papers and have attended several professional development sessions on understanding the GCSE English mark schemes. I have also been certificated by AQA for completing their marking and assessment courses. I therefore have a developed understanding of the GCSE assessment requirements, and how to meet these assessment objectives in the English Language and Literature papers.
My teaching style is based on creating a positive learning environment where my tutees feel motivated in my subject. My lessons are based on cognitive science principles of learning: using retrieval practice to embed knowledge into long-term memory, providing model essays and paragraphs, and guiding student practice. All my lessons are personalised to the specific needs of my tutees and are adapted after each session, depending on the skills/knowledge that need to be practiced.
