I love Biology and have been interested in the subject since childhood, studying it to MSc level at Imperial College. I find teaching incredibly rewarding and love helping students to develop their understanding of the wide range of topics covered. I believe in building confidence in pupils through a structured and supportive learning environment and feel my extensive experience and caring manner allows me to do this whether face to face or on an online platform. Now I am lucky enough to live in the Lake District I spend much of my spare time outside walking the fells and more recently swimming in the many lakes and tarns, followed by my early evenings tutoring - living the dream!
I have taught Biology at secondary schools for 22 years, covering a range of abilities up to and including A* pupils at A level. I have taught classes of 30 and tutored both small groups and individuals, including many with SEN such as ADHD and Dyslexia. I have a wide range of resources to help you with your learning whatever level you are aiming at or starting from.
I am a calm and meticulous teacher, breaking down topics to ensure the pupils develop a synoptic understanding of the Biology course. Once we have covered the key points of a topic I follow up with question practice as the best way to develop the skills needed for todays exams. At all times I encourage my students to ask questions and guide the session to support their own issues and problem areas and help build up their confidence going forward.
