I have an Oxford Classics degree and I am an experienced teacher of Latin, Classical (Ancient and New Testament) Greek and Classical Civilisation. I have extensive experience preparing students for all UK GCSE, A Level and IB Latin, Classical Greek and Classical Civilisation exams.

Tutoring Experience

After over 25 years teaching classics in secondary schools in Kent, UK, I have tutored since retirement.

Tutoring Approach

My language teaching focuses on grammar and vocabulary together with intensive translation practice. I support students learning Latin and Ancient Greek GCSE and A level set texts with close language analysis, and by setting exam style practice questions.

I also tutor Classical Civilisation, especially helping students to improve essay writing skills. I explain how to construct an argument, achieve structure and clarity, make good use of evidence to support an argument, and reference modern scholarship. I am able to share an extensive range of secondary resources to support the A level syllabus. I am happy to offer swift and responsive email support free of charge in addition to tutorials.

I teach sessions of usually one hour, with flexible frequency.

I can help with module revision and exam preparation for all UK GCSE, A level and IB classics syllabuses. I support Oxbridge classics entrance papers and interview preparation. I can quote for a full GCSE or A level course for home learning. I am happy to tutor Latin and Ancient Greek from scratch to mature students. Please note that I do not tutor students aged under 14 years.

I concentrate on generating a friendly and supportive tutoring environment so that the student quickly feels at ease.
