I retired from full time teaching a few years ago but still enjoy seeing how young people become confident and happy when given the help they need to do well.
I have worked in the field of SEN for nearly 30 years with a wide range of individual need: autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, general developmental delay, emotional fragility, language and communication needs, cerebral palsy, Downs syndrome.....and so the list could continue.
Underpinning this work has been the teaching of basic literacy and numeracy skills as appropriate to the individual concerned.
We all have our strengths and need the confidence to make mistakes; with positive management from the tutor a tutee can develop the motivation and self belief necessary to achieve their goals.
I always begin with a free meeting between myself, student and carer/parent to make sure that we are all happy for the tuition to go ahead. We then book a block of lessons (usually 6/10 weeks) and review the situation at the end of this time.
