My affinity for languages started from a young age, spending yearly holidays in France or Spain and having Spanish nannies.
I studied French Studies with Spanish at Oxford Brookes University. In 2014, I lived both in France and Spain. I spent half of one year living in Lyon, the gastronomic capital, and the other half living in Pamplona, in the Basque Country, in Northern Spain - the host of the famous Bull Run Festival, San Fermín. Both places being so rich culturally I have many stories to tell from my time there and my travels to cities throughout both countries.
In 2019 I spent one month in the South of France where I lived with a Yogi family and cared for their 5 year old daughter as well as painted yoga huts. I also worked on a horse ranch and did some gardenscaping. Sadly, this was the last time I spent significant time in either country due to Covid-19 but I have since been channelling my passions into my job as a French and Spanish Teacher at Secondary level.
My ultimate goal is to encourage language uptake in higher education and ignite within my students an equal passion for languages and culture as, I believe, it is so important for (international) relationships and will forever positively enrich an individual’s life as the “doors” it opens are bountiful.
I am DBS checked and will work with students from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5, as well as adults who want to start learning French or Spanish or improve their language skills . I am a Spanish GCSE examiner.
I have worked in a variety of settings with adults (at A-Level/ C1 or beginner level) and young people within schools including at an ‘Outstanding’ Catholic school, a Social, Emotional and Mental Health school (containing some of the most vulnerable young people in our society) and now a Free School (where we deliver expeditionary learning). I have experience working with both Gifted and Talented students and those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
I feel my approach is empathetic and patient whilst also diligent and thorough. I support that a ‘bigger picture’ is an effective means of retaining learning. I aim to provide interesting, engaging lessons tailored to the requirements of the student, supporting them in reaching their full potential whilst encouraging a love and passion for the subject. I strive to create positive relationships rooted in support and mutual respect.
I believe that an educator is morally obligated to enter all learning sessions with only the highest of expectations for each and every one of their students.
My philosophy of education is that everyone is unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. I will provide a safe environment where tutees are invited to share their ideas and take risks.
I will incorporate cooperative learning and individual work that engage and activate tutee’s learning. I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to each session. I believe that I owe it to my tutees to bring consistency, diligence, and warmth to my job in the hope that I can ultimately inspire and encourage such traits in my tutees.
