I am an experienced and qualified teacher of Psychology with 18 years’ experience in A-Level teaching. I have taught AQA, Edexcel and Eduqas exam boards. I consider myself to be a thoughtful, reflective and creative person; I enjoy encouraging students to do the very best they can.
My teaching qualification is in Psychology with Biology; I have been teaching since 2002 (18 years to date). I have worked in several different types of schools and educational establishments, with a wide variety of student, from the very able to those with special educational needs, and everything in between! I have been an examiner in the past. I have privately tutored several young people with pleasing success, the majority of them gaining A or B grades.
I am an approachable, supportive and caring person. My intention is to make lessons engaging, interesting, enjoyable and useful. I hope to nurture a love of learning in my students which enables a deeper engagement with the subject matter, and also to great examination results.
My tutoring style is individualised towards the particular needs of the student. I begin by identifying areas of need and discussing with the student what they want to achieve and how they like to work. The learning process is led by me overall but remains a negotiated process with full involvement of the learner. At the start of each session we review what we intend to cover, and before the end of the session we will have planned for the next session. I set homework to be completed between sessions, and this is marked together with the student, so that they start to learn what the examiners are looking for and how marks are awarded, plus gain feedback on their own performance and how to improve it. I also provide guidance on examination technique and revision strategies.
