Hello there :)
My name is Evans and my specialist subjects are Philosophy, Religious Studies, Italian, Psychology. I also teach Classic Civilization, History and English. As well as a native Italian speaker, I have a wide interest in many different fields of academics, which I have been pursuing independently since my graduation. My studies, both through institutions and independently have given me a balanced approach that values both the structural side of learning as well as the imaginative aspect focusing on each students specific gifts. I tailor my lessons to reflect my experience and aim to benefit the needs as well as the passions of each, individual student. I believe this to be essential for any fruitful imparting of knowledge to take place.
With any potential students I like to take a holistic approach, encouraging their independent engagement and discovery of the subject as well as helping them in particular areas of struggle. I aim to use the first session to assess the student’s knowledge, their strengths and weaknesses before building a plan around improving their understanding. The aim will then be to consolidate this via a variety of techniques such as essay planning exercises, memory techniques and exam preparation, as well as thought-provoking discussion with the material that is proving challenging, but also the material which elicits a favourable response. I think it's beneficial to aim at genuine interest in the subject matter whilst also taking steps to give added confidence, which comes through structured learning.
With Italian, the lessons will mainly involve informal conversation as well as going over basic grammar. It's important to find a tutor you're comfortable with, with that in mind I offer a free informal chat to say hello and to also go over what areas you need some help with.
Since graduating, alongside my tutoring, I have worked with an independent publishing press, helping to edit poetry, prose and memoir. I am also a writer and have recently been published, contributing an extended essay to a book printed in 2022. I graduated with a 2:1 (upper honours) in Philosophy at the University of Sussex and will begin a Masters in Psychoanalytic Studies at Birkbeck next year.
I'm passionate about teaching and have been tutoring independently since 2019, with impressive results. I have taught High School students through to Adult learners. I started tutoring a family relative that was struggling in a couple of their GCSCE’S and was then amazed at how much it benefited him, and how inspiring it was for me. This started my journey in tutoring, which has since become a full time endeavour over the last two years. During this time I have refined my pedagogical techniques and have now helped numerous students improve their grades, their confidence and interest in subjects which they were struggling to get to grips with. As a result of this they have been able to progress in their academic careers and gain entry to some of their preferred institutions.

My areas of special skill include essay writing, exam preparation and developing independent thought.
