I am a knowledgeable, Oxford-educated English Language and Literature Tutor, with expansive subject knowledge and a talent for helping students fulfil their potential and excel. English Literature is a lifelong passion of mine, and I hope that my enthusiasm helps my students to view the subject with fresh eyes. I am conscientious and committed to the success of every student; seeing them develop and flourish is the most rewarding part of the process. I am friendly and approachable and believe that it is important to nurture discussion and encourage students to understand why the themes and ideas expressed in writing are still as relevant today as they were when the texts were first written.
I have been tutoring since 2013, and my experience has covered the following areas:
- Degree-level, A-level, GCSE, KS3, and KS2 tuition
- Syllabus support for a wide range of syllabuses, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and WJEC, amongst others
- Language analysis
- Essay writing and structure
- Creative and transactional writing
- Exam technique
- Revision techniques
- SEN tutoring
- Online and in-person tuition
- Full syllabus delivery for home-schooled students
- Coursework support
- Oxbridge application support
- 11+ and 12+ preparation
- Comprehension support
- Assistance with literary theory, criticism, and context
I favour using personalised learning strategies when tutoring. Every student is different, and it is important to recognise this if the full benefits of personal tuition are to be felt. The sessions will usually include elements of discussion as well as focusing on specific tasks, as I find that students usually grow in confidence when they can talk through their ideas before trying to commit them to paper. Too often, the creative side of literary analysis is underplayed, and I encourage students to be adventurous with their ideas, and then see if they can support them. I like to make the subject as relevant and exciting as possible and maintain an approachable, relaxed, and friendly tone when teaching.
