I am a qualified primary school teacher, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, who enjoys finding innovative, creative ways to promote learning. I have extensive experience teaching Year 4, 5 and 6 and most recently, have been employed in an Assistant Headteacher post, teaching Year 6. In particular, I specialise in preparing children for SATs and 11+ exams. In addition to this, I have been an assessment co/ordinator and moderator, managing assessment procedures for my school in the former and in the latter, visiting other schools and reviewing teacher assessment grades given to meet national expectations in writing at the end of KS2.
As an English and Art History graduate, I also have a strong artistic background which I believe is what drives my creativity in teaching.
Although I received my teaching qualification in the UK, I am Irish and have enjoyed teaching and volunteering in a range of schools in both England and Ireland. This has given me great insight into different approaches to teaching and learning and as a result, has heightened my skills. I also have a range of tutoring experience, specialising in SATs and high school entry exam preparation. My full time employment as a teacher ensures that my knowledge is up-to-date and that the children have the opportunity to learn which strategies best suit them in order to achieve maximum potential.
Learning should be fun which is why I strive to teach with the child's interests in mind so that what they are learning is relevant to them. I have a creative approach and always vary tasks and methods to encourage interest. I have a strong relationship with the children I teach and promote self confidence through realistic goal setting and positivity.
