I studied Classics at Cambridge University and have been tutoring ever since, for 10 years now. I originally started tutoring as a way to subsidise my income while I began a career in PR, but it quickly developed into a huge passion and I have no intention of stopping.
I've racked up more than 800 hours of tutoring over the years and my students have ranged from aged 10-17. I'm particularly well versed in the syllabuses for 13+ Common Entrance, GCSE, Eton KS Scholarship (and equivalent scholarships) and SAT papers. I've received feedback from multiple clients to say that their child has gone from the bottom of the class and really lacking in confidence, to getting the top grade in class exams. I've also helped many students come to really enjoy studying Latin and engage with the subject, even if it was their least favourite subject to begin with. Some of those students have ended up taking it to GCSE and beyond, when they were originally just trying to get through their EOY school exams. Feedback like this makes my job incredibly rewarding.
I see each student as an individual, and work to understand what makes them engage with the subject - it might be a desire to improve their grade, they might have a genuine curiosity in languages or classical culture, or they might not naturally engage with it at all. I work hard to build confidence in all my students and understand where the blocks are in their learning - once those blocks are identified and sticking points are unstuck, there is no reason for the student not to excel.
