I am a qualified Chemistry/Science teacher (PGCE) with 13 years experience and I am teaching at a local Macclesfield school. I have also been providing personal tuition for 15 years alongside my teaching posts.

I have detailed experience with the exam boards and I use this experience to ensure students reach their full potential. Very often students have the knowledge of a topic but aren’t able to use the correct terminology required in order to achieve the marks. I have first hand experience of how the mark scheme is applied and the increased level of demand. I can improve students exam technique with an understanding of common errors and misconceptions.

Tutoring Approach

I want to assist students to excel and achieve their aspirations in the Science subjects. Over the years I have a generated a wealth of resources that I adapt and modify to suit each individual’s needs. I have access to past exam papers, secure exam materials and exam style questions for all exam boards (new specification) and can use these to generate revision packs or for lessons that have an exam technique focus/to confirm understanding of a certain topic. I can also support with how to structure independent study/revision and I have prepared specific resources for students to use for this. With the change to synoptic GCSE and A level courses, regular review of the previous years work is crucial. Overall, my lessons are all about making sure the student enjoys, progresses, grows in confidence and the work is suited to their particular learning style.

I have an excellent record of working with students to improve their grades, taking students from a mock/AS grade they were disappointed with through to them achieving their desired grade on results day! It is always lovely to hear about them meeting the entry criteria into their desired school, college or university.
