I'm George, a passionate biologist with a recently completed DPhil (PhD) from the University of Oxford Department of Biology. My research at Oxford delved into the intricate realms of plant biochemistry and metabolism, where I explored the fascinating interplay between plant growth and complex metabolic networks.

My academic journey has been diverse, encompassing a spectrum of biological disciplines. From in vitro biochemistry to cutting-edge medical research, insect physiology, neuroscience, and biological psychology, I've had the privilege of immersing myself in a wide array of scientific domains. What truly captivates me about biology is the big-picture understanding it offers—the ability to perceive how evolution meticulously crafts the myriad intricacies of organisms into elaborate systems is profoundly beautiful to me.

My academic endeavours have led me to a variety of institutions worldwide. I completed my undergraduate integrated Master's degree at Durham University before embarking on my doctoral studies at Oxford. Along the way, I gained invaluable research experience through placements at King's College London and The Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Biophysics in Beijing.

Currently, I'm fully immersed in research as a member of the esteemed John Innes Centre in Norwich, where I focus on unravelling the mysteries of circadian rhythms in plants. Looking ahead, I'm excited to embark on a new chapter of my scientific journey in the United States, where I'll delve into exploring the metabolic intricacies of reproductive biology in humans at Michigan State University.

Throughout my scientific career, I've found great joy in mentoring and assisting peers and younger students. With a bit more flexibility in my schedule now, I'm eager to extend a helping hand to those striving to achieve their academic goals. Tutoring Experience

My journey into teaching began with an assistant coaching role at my local Taekwondo club, where I discovered my passion for guiding others in their learning. Since then, I have expanded my teaching repertoire across various martial arts disciplines. Presently, I serve as a coach for a beginner's class at a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy, a role that continuously sharpens both my martial arts skills and my abilities as an instructor.

Beyond martial arts, I've also shared my musical expertise with friends and family, teaching them to play instruments such as the drum kit, piano, and guitar. Witnessing the progress of those I've taught, such as a friend who recently achieved her Grade 4 Rockschool certificate after an introductory drum lesson, brings me immense joy.

On an academic level, I've extended my teaching reach to aid fellow students in diverse subjects, not limited to biology. Whether it's proofreading essays or providing guidance on coursework, I've offered support across disciplines. Notably, I contributed to the academic success of a friend who achieved distinction on her Master's thesis in applied social work, which I had the privilege to edit. Furthermore, during my DPhil studies, I took on the responsibility of demonstrating coursework for introductory biology courses, further solidifying my commitment to sharing knowledge and fostering learning environments.

In my teaching approach, I place a strong emphasis on adapting to the unique needs of each student. I recognize that individuals have varying learning preferences and styles; while some thrive with a structured approach, others prefer a more fluid, conversational method. Additionally, I understand that students absorb information differently, whether through visual aids, auditory explanations, or hands-on engagement with the material.

Moreover, I believe it's essential to align my teaching strategies with the goals and objectives of the student. For instance, if a student seeks tutoring primarily for exam preparation, I am fully prepared to tailor our sessions to meet the requirements of exam marking schemes and cover the designated curriculum comprehensively. On the other hand, if a student wishes to delve into a specific topic they find challenging, I am capable of adjusting the pace of instruction to suit their individual learning needs.
