I’m a second-year Maths student at the University of Manchester who enjoys teaching and helping others improve. I'm a big sports fan, having played cricket and rugby throughout my time at school, and also enjoy going to the gym and swimming when I can. I spend much of my free time as a university cadet in the Royal Navy.
Throughout my time at secondary school and sixth form, I regularly worked with students from lower years, both at lunchtime or after school. The sessions took a variety of forms, whether it be help with past papers for GCSE students or fun Maths games for those in younger years. Whether it's helping my coursemates with their work or coaching young players at my local cricket club, I greatly enjoy the experience of teaching.
I always encourage the student to lead the session as much as possible; a successful teacher shouldn't dictate how to answer each question, but nudge their student in the right direction where necessary. By focusing particularly on answering questions, the student can become comfortable with the exam format, whilst also identifying areas of weakness, which is the key to gaining higher grades.
