Private English and Special Needs Tuition in Lincoln

I am semi retired from teaching in The Special Needs Department (Foundation) at Lincoln College where I worked from 1997 until 2013. I have also studied for a Foundation Degree in Counselling. I have a current DBS registration. I enjoy many hobbies including walking my dog, cycling, keeping fit.

Tutoring Experience

I started teaching Dressmaking to adults at night school, since then have moved on to teaching people with learning difficulties and special needs. I have worked in a Social Services Day Centre for People with Learning Disabilities/difficulties, as an instructor and also a team leader. My experience at Lincoln College included teaching most subjects from Functional Skills in maths, english and IT. Personal Development, sports, retail skills, gardening, environmental studies. I was a personal tutor to my tutor group and carried out 1-1 tutorials. My groups of students would be classes of 10 - 15 students with ages ranching from 16 upwards.

Tutoring Approach

I am a calm and patient person and I am used to working with small groups of students or on a 1-1 basis. My approach is to simplify the task and give direct instructions, breaking down learning into small achievable steps. Using practical props and hands on learning. Pictures and use of art and craft making to engage the student. Visits and trips into the community to integrate learning with real life skills. The use of IT is also a useful resource.
Tutorials for students to give feedback and be involved with their learning. Meeting with parents/support workers to ensure all needs are being met.
