I'm a retired Maths teacher. I started out studying Physics at degree level and then worked as an electrical engineer working in the Electricity Supply industry. A move to the West Country brought the chance to work in property renovation and I also started a knitwear design business. (There's a lot of maths in knitwear design!) While I was bringing up my young family I studied Mathematics for four years with the Open University and then trained as a teacher of Mathematics, gaining my BSc Ed (Hons) in 1995 at the University of Exeter. Since then I've taught maths in Secondary Schools and in FE College until retirement.
I've taught KS 3 Maths, Functional Skills Maths, GCSE Maths, and A level Maths at FE College for more than 15 years, and I've taught 15 to 19 year olds of a wide range of abilities, and adult returners to learning. I've been doing one to one tutoring ever since retiring because I enjoy helping students to approach their maths with increased confidence and a wider background knowledge.
I also work as an examiner marking the work of maths students from all over the world.
Tutoring mainly online via Zoom. You are also welcome to come to my home for face to face lessons. Please note I do not travel to students' homes to tutor.
The joy of one to one tutoring is that we build a relationship where you are able to ask whatever you want, and you gain the confidence to tackle problems calmly and rationally. I don't offer pre-prepared lessons, our sessions are tailored exactly to your needs from week to week.
At A level, I appreciate that many students are doing Maths because it is a necessary or useful qualification, not because they love the subject. They may struggle, especially in the second year, with some very heavy content. I'm here to help you through that.
I have up to date knowledge of all the main Exam Board syllabuses at A level, having tutored students for AQA, Edexcel, and OCR/MEI examinations .
