Sept 2015- August 2016 – Ainthorpe Primary School/ Chiltern Primary (Years 3,4,5)
I joined Ainthorpe School in September 2015 with a passion to develop my skills and knowledge in the Primary sector. Having come from a Secondary School background of 8 years, I immediately fitted in and enjoyed my everyday practice. I co-ordinated the subject of Geography, whilst also acting as a lead for behaviour across KS2 (years 3-6).
I embedded strategies and AFL ideas and all CPD training helped my continuous search to excel as a classroom practitioner.
I continued to implement my sports background into my work, delivering PE to all year six pupils as well as my own Year 3 and 4 class.
Teacher of Secondary PE ( 8 years)
Teacher of Primary curriculum (2 years) including Maths and English to KS2.
A Level in Maths in 2003.
I am aware of the crucial role of planning around the children’s interests and of focussed planning and preparation in order to create opportunities for fun, high-quality learning, followed by accurate assessment. I continue to reflect on and evaluate my own practice and track pupil progress closely in order to tailor my teaching to suit the needs of individuals and to set appropriate targets and learning objectives. It also ensures the correct scaffolding is built into my lessons so that all children can achieve.
During my career as a teacher, I have attended many training courses which have enabled me to become up to date with the most recent recommendations for teaching both the Primary and Secondary curriculum. Through these courses, I have developed a passion for introducing new ideas and resources into the classroom in the hope that it will encourage the children’s imagination and development both academically, emotionally and socially.
I provide challenge for all pupils across the teaching groups, and extend those who are deemed more able by giving them opportunities to develop their specific strengths and access a deeper learning through different contexts.
During my time in both Primary and Secondary schools, I have learnt that pupils thrive when inspired and encouraged, and when guided by an enthusiastic, energetic and dedicated teacher who puts pupil learning, enjoyment and welfare at the heart of their practice. This belief underpins every aspect of my teaching and my beliefs and I am committed to providing pupils with a stimulating and effective learning environment in which each individual feels valued and safe, and in which all are given the confidence to develop their own unique strengths and abilities, both personally, physically and academically. These skills are ones that I have been developing for 10 years – all contributing to helping me to mentor pupils and learn about how to better myself as a teacher.
I will build the lessons around the pupil using a ' pupil centred' aapproach.
