I am 51 years old and I originate from Sunderland. I moved here in 1991 to study and have taught here ever since. I am married with two children and a very friendly dog called Jessie. I live in Erdington and I teach locally. I love books, walking and listening to music.
I have been teaching since 1995. I have taught from Reception to Year 6 and have an unblemished record. I have taught every subject at primary age but my particular strengths are England and Maths. I have taught in 6 different schools around Birmingham including inner city schools and schools in Erdington. Having taught in different settings has given me a huge variety of experiences and opportunities to teach different ages and types of children. I have lead English and Music in schools and have been a member of Senior leadership teams. I understand that children learn in different ways and develop at different rates. I teach to the individual and support them in their learning journeys. I believe that resources are important to support children.
I teach from the needs of the children but in line with national curriculum and its expectations of our primary aged children. I know the standard our children need to achieve so teach using a variety of tools and methods. Some children need practical resources, others simply need encouragement to have a go and believe they can achieve. I can support with homework, close gaps in learning especially if a child is struggling with a a skill or a particular strand of knowledge. Some children want to become equipped with an understanding of grammar test style questions. I teach accordingly but in a calm and caring environment.
