Originally from Middlesbrough, in the North East of England, I live with my wife, identical twin daughters and Shadow, our lucky black cat.
I love painting, drawing, football, watching great films and listening to inspiring music.
I am 'semi-retired' and looking to teach/tutor/illustrate part-time.

Tutoring Approach

As an experienced educator with a deep commitment to fostering individual growth and development, my approach to teaching children on a one-to-one basis is centred around tailoring the learning experience to each child's unique needs, strengths, and interests.

In a one-to-one setting, I believe in creating a safe and nurturing environment where children feel valued and heard. My approach begins by building a strong rapport and understanding the child's learning style, preferences, and any challenges they may face. This foundation allows me to adapt my teaching methods and materials to suit their specific requirements, ensuring a highly personalised and effective learning journey.

I understand that children have diverse learning paces and strengths. With this in mind, I am patient and attentive, allowing them the time they need to grasp concepts and develop skills. I encourage questions and curiosity, fostering a sense of ownership over their learning process. By nurturing their natural inquisitiveness, I inspire a love for learning that goes beyond our one-to-one sessions.

Flexibility is a cornerstone of my teaching approach. I am open to adjusting the curriculum and pacing as the child progresses, always putting their growth and comfort first. This adaptability ensures that they are consistently challenged and engaged, leading to tangible improvements in their academic performance and confidence.

I firmly believe that learning is not confined to textbooks and lessons. Incorporating the child's interests into our sessions helps to make learning enjoyable and relatable. Whether it's integrating their hobbies into lessons or exploring real-world applications of what they're learning, this approach sparks their enthusiasm and helps them see the practical value of their education.

Communication is at the heart of effective one-to-one teaching. I maintain open lines of dialogue with both the child and their parents or guardians, sharing progress updates and discussing any concerns. This collaborative approach ensures that everyone involved is aligned and working towards the child's academic and personal success.
