Hello! I am a flute, tin-whistle and beginners piano teacher based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. I teach both classical and folk music, and specialise mostly in Irish and English folk. I am fully DBS-checked and have a lot of experience in teaching both individual and group classes. My musical background began with classical music, and I did ABRSM grades in both flute and piano, and played with the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra. Alongside this I learnt Irish traditional music from my mum and competed in Irish music competitions, winning several All-Britain titles. I then learnt English folk music and became a member of the National Youth Folk Ensemble for several years, before coming to Newcastle University to study Music.
I worked at Leeds Irish Centre for two years as a flute and tin-whistle teacher, teaching Irish traditional music to a range of ages and abilities, in addition to teaching classical flute lessons privately. I have also taught and assisted in a range of workshop settings. I have also worked as an English language teacher in a voluntary setting.
I teach beginner to intermediate lessons, either in-person or online. For folk music my preferred method is to teach by ear, but I can also teach sheet music reading and music theory basics. Classical flute and piano would be taught through sheet music as well as working on a range of techniques.
