As a qualified secondary maths teacher and Mathematical Sciences graduate, my subject and pedagogical knowledge are of an extremely high standard. I am taking a break from teaching full-time this academic year to pursue my more creative passions of music and farming, and I love the balance that tutoring provides. I remain fascinated by mathematics and how it underpins the nature of reality, and I love sharing this fascination and enthusiasm with students.
Having studied Mathematical Sciences at undergraduate level, I have a deep understanding of how abstract and alien mathematics may seem sometimes. I understand when students do not understand and students find me approachable to be able to ask the questions they need answered to achieve the understanding they deserve. This nurturing approach has proven 100% successful, with all my tutoring students achieving the improvements they wanted. This varies from achieving an elusive 4 at foundation level GCSE, to achieving an A, having been predicted a D, at A-level. I recently found out that my A Level maths and further maths results last academic year were the best of any UTC in the country and feel extremely proud of my students’ achievements.
I have 6 years of qualified classroom teaching experience in state secondary schools in England and 6 years tutoring experience prior to that. I have tutored students from the ages of 10-18, from year 6 to A-Level. I have worked with adult mature students for QTA tests, exam retakes and interview exams and young people in the mainstream school system (private and state sector) and home education. I have an in-depth understanding of working with students with special educational needs.
I am offering online tutoring in maths and further maths at GCSE and A Level. My enthusiastic, varied and bespoke approach will scaffold students to find their own method of understanding, using a variety of resources including exercises, worksheets, online games and often just a pencil and paper. I am happy to work with whatever the student requires, whether this be help understanding homework, preparing for exams or even exploring a subject further than the curriculum and classroom environment allows. I will tailor the sessions to students' needs and be amply prepared.
