Hello, I'm Harriet, and I have been a teacher and educator for over 20 years. I split my time between the UK, where I live in Brighton and Hove, and Portugal. I am a qualified teacher and love teaching students and seeing them grow in confidence. I am qualified to teach English as a Foreign or Second Language, specialising in General and Business English and Pronunciation . I have most experience teaching adults and teenagers.
I have over 20 years experience teaching teenagers and adults in colleges, charities and, most recently, online. My expertise is in teaching English as a foreign language to people who need it for work, language tests or who need to improve their general communication. I am qualified to teach English as a Foreign Language, Business English and Pronunciation. I have Masters degrees in Psychology and Creative writing and am confident in using and teaching creative and academic English. I have had professional experience at Department Manager and Director level and am confident and knowledgeable on the language of business.. I have helped people function better at work, prepare for and pass Language exams such as TOEFL and IELTs, enabled people to get better jobs and worked with people so that they feel more confident when speaking on every day situations.
I start with you, the student, by finding out what you can already do and what you want and need to learn. The lessons are structured but also enjoyable and flexible. I use a range of materials from Cambridge Language books to real life stories, podcasts and videos. I set homework so that we have a topic to discuss and work on in each lesson. I give feedback during the lesson so you are aware of what you need to do work on and practice.
