I left Swindon College in 2017 to see if I could set up my own tutoring business and have never looked back. I love working 1 to 1 with learners and seeing them increase in confidence and achieve the qualifications they need to move on with their chosen career paths
I worked at Swindon College for 15 years in a variety of jobs, including teaching functional skills maths, GCSE maths and learning support. My last job there was as an academic support tutor working 1 to 1 or with small groups of learners, who needed extra help with their maths. I particularly enjoy working 1 to 1 as it's easier to get to the root of where their specific problems lie
I believe with maths the most important thing is building confidence and building on what the learner already knows. I can then go on to give some meaning to the maths, so they are not just learning a series of processes. I love games and use these a lot particularly with my younger learners. They help them learn maths without realising they are doing it and I'm constantly surprised how they understand concepts so much easier when presented as a game.
