Home Tuition for Maths and Chemistry in Tower Hamlets

Hello, my name is Harry Collier-Smith and I am a third year medical student at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Excitingly, in September I will be taking a year out to pursue an intercalated degree in Prehospital Medicine. I am somone who has always been passionate about teaching, and I love to build a great rapport with everyone I work with!

Tutoring Experience

Teaching has always been something I have been passionate about and have enjoyed. My experience is:
-Tutored since I have left school (around 2-3 years)
-Peer mentor at The Bishop's Stortford High School
-Academic lead for second year medical students who belong to BLWP

Tutoring Approach

I like to start each session with questions recapping key content we went through the week before to consolidate their learning. Then we will go through lots of different questions surrounding a topic. Throughout this process I will explain key concepts and bridge any gaps in their knowledge. At the end of each session we will recap everything that we have covered and ask the student to explain to me the concepts we have learnt.

One of my priorities each session is to help how the student tackles and breaks down each question. We will work together to create a system they can use each time they approach a question, especially when they get unsure, so they can achieve the maximum marks as possible.

Furthermore, I believe get to know the pupil and building a good rapport with them is crucial in making these sessions as productive as possible. Understanding what the pupil wants to get out of the session and how they like to learn, is important so I can adapt my approach.
