ONLINE using Zoom, Skype, G-Meet or Teams

I am an experienced teacher and tutor who specialises in english and history, GCSE preparation and project-based homeschooling, delivering the highest quality small group and one-to-one support.

My enthusiasm and drive allows my students to view me not only as their subject tutor, but as a role model, friend and ultimately someone who will take a genuine interest in their learning. I also work in the creative arts and have a passion for theatre, film, music and audio drama.

I find that parents play a key role in the support structure of any child, and therefore I like to include them as much as they feel they can, to ensure the best possible outcome. I create a tailored programme for each student, in which progress is monitored to allow parents to be a part of the tuition process. I do this with care, compassion and positivity, and take pride in catering for individual student needs.

Online tutoring is most definitely gaining in popularity, especially with GCSE students, however many parents are not au-fait with how this works. For an in-depth explanation on how this can be beneficial to you, your child's life and more on how it works, please contact me.

I teach creative writing, presentation skills, theatre and film production on the Outschool platform. These are popular in the home-school and flexi-ed communities. For these groups, please ask directly about rates.

In my small online groups, you’ll get personal support mixed with ideas coming from a keen group of students, who want to understand better and succeed. The group has the HUGE benefit of being the perfect opportunity to build confidence sharing and discussing ideas, as well as being practise for the GCSE Speaking and Listening module.

FACE TO FACE, when available, is at my house for SEN students and those with particular needs. Face to face sessions are strictly limited and are usually booked by the end of July for the whole of the next academic year.

IF YOU HAVE SPECIFIC NEEDS EG FLEXI ED, EHCP SUPPORT OR TARGETED PROJECTS TO DEVELOP CONFIDENCE, PLEASE SEND A MESSAGE.

For exam preparation in english I include all aspects (novels, scripts, poetry, essays and speaking & listening) and specialize in essay technique (helping with advice on structure, organization of material and clarity of expression).

I regularly work with students to raise their confidence in their abilities. This is achieved by making learning fun which naturally makes it easier. This is essential for so many young people who are not happy at and therefore not able to cope with attending school.

Where re-takes are concerned many students have improved their grades during their time with me, as the result of improving their understanding about the subject, exam requirements and structure.

I also work as a youth theatre/film director, drama teacher and drama coach and can therefore support LAMDA, Trinity College, the Arts Award, exam preparation, Drama School interview/audition preparation and in the development of monologues. I regularly use drama to simply improve confidence.

An initial meeting will always be arranged before tutoring is confirmed, to make sure that the student and tutor will be able to work together. We need to be able to get on!

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored hundreds of students in the past 30 years, in a mixture of ages and abilities. I do not provide 'quantitative' evidence of my tutoring success, as I don't believe this reflects the full extent of my work; each student has their own goal and individual potential, whether it be to reach a pass or a 90%+ score or to have the confidence to make new friends.

I also run half-term and holiday courses in creative writing, film and theatre production which are small groups and always popular. These work well in groups of friends.

I hold a full clean enhanced DBS check, and am an approved, trained member Qualified Tutor and the Chartered College of Teachers.

I have been working as a tutor for over 30 years iand have had students aged from 4 to 60 years. Teaching has taken place both in person and via Skype and Zoom (world wide, long distance). By bringing subjects to life students understand the information and enjoy the process.

Regarding drama, I am a professional actor and theatre director and have worked with a range of colleges as well as theatre companies working with children and young people. I have also worked with the Birmingham Hippodrome, The Repertory Theatre and within the West End and currently work with an international film producer.

We always have fun while learning!

Tutoring Approach

My approach includes a mixture of a flexible and friendly personality, empathy, humour and a can-do attitude!

"if you think you can or think you can't you're probably right"

I am a trained teacher with classroom experience and therefore have an excellent understanding of how students can fall inbetween the cracks. I'm also a trained tutor (Qualified Tutor) and understand completely how to create tailored learning. I don't have a one-size-fits-all approach.

My experience includes supporting home-school, flexi-ed, SEND and students with an EHCP. I also lead a team of tutors and together we can offer Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) as we are an approved Alternative Provider.

I have a work phone and dedicated WhatsApp where I communicate with parents and students in groups and individually to help with homework and check in throughout the week.

I have terms and conditions that include a cancellation policy, and a one-month discontinuation policy either side if tuition is terminated.

An initial meeting will always be arranged before tutoring is confirmed, to make sure that the student and tutor will be able to work together. We need to get on!
