I am originally from London but have lived in a number of countries; I love travelling, especially learning about other cultures and learning different languages, so I enjoy being able to help other people learn my language.
What I love most about teaching is the feeling of being able to help someone understand or gain confidence in an area that they have been struggling with, and hopefully inspiring a new interest in it when they have been feeling demotivated.
EFL/EAL:
I have ten years of EFL/EAL teaching experience, with students aged 7-70 and of varying language levels (Beginner to Advanced).
Subjects I cover include: General English, Academic English for university study, exam support (GCSE/Cambridge exams), Content and Language Integrated Learning for English as an Additional Language students within UK schools (supporting mainstream curriculum).
SEN:
I have experience working with students with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and complex SEN (both as an EFL teacher and as a Teaching Assistant). I have run Social and Communication Skills programmes with groups of students, as well as supported students one to one within mainstream lessons and in extra support sessions.
Spanish:
I have a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status in Secondary Spanish. I studied Spanish at university, including a year abroad in Barcelona, and have also spent six months living and working in Spain.
I believe in getting to know each student really well in order to be able to adapt my teaching to enable them to progress as quickly as possible. I use students' personal interests and passions to help my teaching, and encourage students to make mistakes and ask questions in order to be fully engaged in their own learning. I am happy for students to direct the content of the lessons if they wish, and can be flexible as required, but am also able to suggest a programme of lessons (according to each student's goals).
