I have been lucky enough to live all over the UK and abroad and am currently based in the beautiful city of Edinburgh. I have 3 grown-up children and love travelling, cooking, reading and have recently taken up running -others might call it 'shuffling'!
I have been a Head of Learning Support (SENCO) and English teacher for over 30 years in independent and state primary and secondary schools both in the UK and internationally. I am highly experienced in support for learning strategies, particularly dyslexia and study skills. I have a wealth of experience and success with tutoring for entrance tests and 11plus both in person and online. I am well versed with the GCSE English requirements and have offered intensive preparation courses to get pupils exam ready. I have a particular interest in poetry analysis!
I have a passion for teaching and truly believe that a love of learning and multi-sensory approach underpins every lesson that I teach. Every pupil is different and searching for their particular learning style is central to success.
Many of my pupils, I have tutored throughout their educational journey - from primary to secondary and I feel that this is reflective of my warm, professional and dedicated approach.
Comments from past and present pupils have included:
'Everyone needs a Helen in their educational lives!'- I am still tutoring their family, 12 years on!!
'Helen has transformed our son into a boy who believes in himself and is finally fulfilling his potential'.
'I cannot thank you enough- your enthusiasm is infectious'.
