I am a qualified Maths teacher with a degree in Management Science from Swansea University and a PGCE in Secondary Maths. I live in Epsom. I have more than 10 years experience teaching Mathematics at Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, post 16, adults and also 1:1 tuition.
I have taught the GCSE Edexcel syllabus for many years, so I am very familiar with all the types of questions.
My biggest passion is teaching Foundation GCSE Maths and helping those students who have not yet achieved their Grade 4 or above to do so.
Unfortunately I do not drive so all tutoring is done in my kitchen in my own home.
I gained my PGCE Secondary Maths qualification in 2007 at St Mary's in Twickenham during which time I trained at Glyn School in Epsom and Cheam High. I joined Cheam High School in July 2008. Since then I have taught Maths at Epsom and Ewell High School, Carshalton College and Nescot, and I have also tutored in Carshalton Boys Sports College and in Glyn school.
In my own time I have tutored many students of all ages from local schools including the Beacon, Rosebery, Glyn, Cheam High, Blenheim, and St Andrews. This broad experience has equipped me with many superb resources, up to date knowledge of the different examination boards and their specifications and all the many exam papers and questions that students need to ensure they are successful.
I regard myself as an enthusiastic teacher. Whilst I genuinely enjoy Maths, I appreciate that for many students it is a 'Marmite' subject, and so often the biggest challenge many learners face is confidence and actually wanting to engage with the subject. I believe my strengths are being very supportive, patient, and showing them that they can do it, so they begin to believe in themselves again and so in time become successful . This is absolutely crucial for the majority of students who have so far achieved a Grade 3 (D)
I also believe in teaching students to understand what they are learning, rather than just learning a formula. When teaching a topic I try to make it interesting, approach it from many angles and provide the student with as many different types of questions and problems to solve as possible, so they become confident in exam situations when faced with a new, never seen before question.
If you are looking for a GCSE Foundation Maths teacher, I would love to hear from you. If you have any questions whatsoever, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you.
