Helen

After completing my degree I worked in social and education settings before qualifying as a teacher over 20 years ago. I feel this experience has helped me, within my teaching, to relate the theory to practical everyday experiences and this in turn helps students grasp abstract concepts easier.
I also have two children, aged 21 and 19 who have gone through A levels and a degree and so can also understand the pressures that students are under and can help support this.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught A Level Psychology for over 25 years and have been an examiner for the A level papers for over 19 years.
I have worked predominately in sixth form secondary schools but have also experience of working in sixth form colleges.
In recent years I have also taught Health and Social care and Criminology.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is very methodical - making sure students have the basic foundations of a theory before moving on to the application and evaluation, as without this foundation the higher thinking skills of evaluation are difficult.
Because of my many years of examiner experience I am able to help support the transfer of knowledge from the theory to the examination questions, which is vital to gain a good grade.
