Maths and Physics Tuition in Oxford

Hi! I'm Hubert. I hold a PhD Social Data Science (Oxford) and two Master’s degrees in Physics and Philosophy (Oxford) and Data Science (UCL). I have received scholarships for my own work. I have taught students for successful entry into Oxbridge (personal statement, admissions tests, mock interviews) and other top UK universities. My students have had many A* results in GCSE in A Level. I also received an unconditional offer for undergraduate study at Oxford.

I offer the following services:

Regular tutoring:
* Maths GCSE/A Level (including Pre-U)
* Further Maths GCSE/A Level (including Pre-U)
* Physics GCSE/A Level (including Pre-U)
* Coding (Python)

Admissions-oriented tutoring:
* Mock Oxbridge Interviews (Physics/Maths/Philosophy)
* Admissions Tests Prep (IELTS/SAT/ACT/PAT/MAT/STEP I)
* Personal Statements (UCAS)
* Extracurricular Computer Science Projects (e.g. text-based games coded from scratch that can be played in Discord)

Tutoring Experience

I have over 500 hours of teaching experience, both in person and online. I’ve taught a large range of students with different needs, from under-13 to adult learners. I have experience in crafting both regular, long-term partnerships and short-term, emergency exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach

If you choose to work with me I will be invested in you/your child’s development. Each student is an individual with their own unique process and strengths, and that means I will tailor the style and content of sessions to each student’s needs: it might be that you like intense practice to help solidify concepts; for others, a more careful and steady conceptual approach might be more fruitful. Some students work really well with colour-coded equations in an explanation, others might prefer visual diagrams. I really enjoy adapting angles to explain something new or difficult. There’s nothing quite like that ‘light bulb’ moment when a student understands a new concept for the first time!

In general, I aim to achieve the following over the course of our sessions:
* The teaching of new material or material the student has previously found difficult
* Prompting students to explain things back to me - there’s no better way to learn something than by trying to teach it!
* Regular practice questions from a textbook or external resources.
* Exam technique - e.g. time management, when to skip questions, how to get partial credit even when stuck
* Confidence building through all the above

I teach online exclusively. If we are working together regularly, this means:
* You’ll be able to access recordings of our sessions to replay as you wish (for parents: recordings are also made for safeguarding)
* You’ll also be able to refer back to our collaborative whiteboards online anytime, and export them to PDF for your offline use.
* We’ll use a centralised management system that will allow us to streamline the learning process, grouping resources from different spaces (e.g. helpful videos, exercises, etc.) into one location for you to reference. (for parents: you may also have access to this digital space)
